This has been a good year for tourism in Whanganui, and it is a common sight to see the paddle steamer Waimarie plying upstream with a load of tourists. It is New Zealand's only coal-fired paddle steamer and a ride on it is truly a voyage into our historic past.
NOTE: April 2020 - Soon after the post above NZ went into lockdown in an effort to contain the Covid-19 virus, so tourism came to a complete halt.
