An update on Godwit AJD

A little over a month ago I reported that AJD was back on the Whanganui Estuary for the summer, albeit a little earlier than his usual arrival time here. Well, he stayed one day, and then disappeared! I suspected he had returned to Foxton, and sure enough, on 29 November 2022, I photographed him back there. I expected he would return to Whanganui at his usual time, the first week in December. So, on 3 December 2022, I was not surprised to see him back, and he has remained here this time. It is interesting to see him with a whimbrel, a rare shorebird for Whanganui, who has been here now for over a month.

I was at the river early one morning recently and AJD had the politeness to greet me when we met!!
