The South Island is a great birding destination and we have just returned from a very successful two and half weeks there. Good photos were obtained of all our target birds including nesting white herons at Okarito, black stilts at Tekapo, and nesting wrybills on the upper reaches of Canterbury's braided rivers. My aim was to get a nice picture of a nesting wrybill that I can use on the cover of my next book - and I think I have achieved this! The weather was perfect and every day the mountains were standing out so clear. What a great birding trip and what a great country to live in.
