Nankeen night heron juveniles

After a very exciting breeding season and our good fortune of being able to monitor nests and chicks, the birds returned to their nocturnal ways. However, during some cold days in mid-winter, the birds will sometimes come out to warm in the afternoon sun. This has happened a number of times in the last week or two, giving us the chance to observe if any juveniles are around. Three young birds have shown, along with one sub-adult, and nine adults. This gives us a total count of 13, the largest number we have had at Upokongaro.
