During winter we have lots of kingfishers on the Whanganui River Estuary, feeding on crabs, that seem abundant. Driving my 4x4 along the estuary I can approach the birds closely, resulting in some great pictures. I recently photographed one coughing up a pellet of indigestible food, and then another eating a crab. What beautiful birds - one of my favourites.
