Kaka Visiting Whanganui

The kaka is an iconic New Zealand endemic, and we have been happy to have a young pair visiting our Virginia Lake, here in Whanganui. Although seemingly common around Wellington, on Great Barrier Island, and on Stewart Island, in many other parts of the country they are rare, including Whanganui. I have observed them over several weeks, and been amused at their antics, including swinging a 360 around a horizontal branch, like you see some Australian birds do. Food is the draw, and they have been feeding on the white flowering gums.
