The Kaka are back again

Last year we had a great kaka hunt with many successful encounters. And, this year, they are back again. A gardener at Bason Botanic Gardens let us know that she had seen them feeding on banksia, at the rear of the gardens. We soon found the pair, who again seem to be young birds, who are very visual and very vocal. I recorded their own calls, and played it back to them. They responded immediately, and dived at me, passing by at full speed, less than a metre away. What a great experience, although at the time I got quite a fright. The last several days we could not find them, so likely they have moved to another feeding spot. Last year they were at Virginia Lake for several weeks during July.
