With migration time nearing it is great to see the male godwits, especially AJD, taking on breeding plumage. This is AJD's 18th summer on the Whanganui Estuary and the fact he is colouring up suggests he plans to migrate and breed again this year. His usual day of departure is 25 March and a farewell gathering is planned again to celebrate. The Sailing Club, on the shore of the river, have been very good at letting us use their building as a base for the celebrations. Last year we had around 100 people, so please come along if you are in the area, from about 4 pm.
